AkzoNobel’s Decorative Paints (DP) business area adds color to people’s lives with a full range of interior and exterior decoration and protection products for the trade and consumer markets. As authorities on color we aim to provide all our customers – from professional decorators to DIY enthusiasts – with a great color experience and a fantastic finish. Our range includes paints, lacquers and varnishes, as well as products for surface preparation (pre-deco products), with leading brands like Flexa, Sikkens and Cetabever amongst others.

Key to our success is an expert and experienced approach to consumer, professional and shopper marketing. This is powered in the Netherlands by a substantial Marketing Department that is responsible for brand development, shopper activation and the creation of strategic plans for the entire marketing mix. The marketing department in NL consist of 3 brand teams, a digital team and a customer marketing team.

Within the Marketing Department NL, Customer Marketing is mainly focused on the consumer/DIY channel in the form of Large Scale Outlets, such as Praxis, Gamma, Karwei, Small Scale Outlets, which are mainly local shops, and Online. This requires Customer Marketing to create a wide range of innovative and attractive shopper and customer marketing programs that build meaningful and permanent relationships with (largely) existing customers.

The role and its responsibilities
This position is based at AkzoNobel in Sassenheim, the Netherlands, and also encompasses the role of Channel Manager Large Scale Outlets. Thus the position represents an exciting opportunity to lead channel strategies across a wide and fascinating marketing landscape.

Your core focus is to lead category management, driving the effectiveness of promotions and activations in order to increase customer value in terms of optimizing sales, market share, and margins. This requires you to lead analysis for strategy development for Decorative Paints NL, lead channel strategy and contribute to marketing strategy and innovation. Further, you lead a customer marketing strategy designed to build partnerships between AkzoNobel and its customers, based on customer knowledge, shopper behavior, and market information.

Another core focus is the strategic management and implementation of in-store marketing programs that deliver the optimal presentation of our brands, and shelf planning based on quantitative and qualitative data. You also perform qualitative and quantitative market/channel/customer analyses and market research, lead channel analyses and reports, and work with sales to negotiate with customers. Finally, as an inspirational manager you build a strong team (6FTE), that you coach and train in leadership and functional capabilities.

Candidate profile
To apply for this position you must possess the following attributes:

  • Master’s degree in a Customer Marketing discipline (Category Management, In-store Marketing) or equivalent in experience;
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in this area with an FMCG company, with at least three years in a management role;
  • Team player with the social and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with people at all levels of our matrix organization;
  • Strong communication skills including a high standard of written and spoken Dutch and English.
