Online Shoppers and Buyers around the World

4 december 2002, 09:36

Thanks to holiday media coverage, we know people are buying online in the US, but what about the rest of the world? Nielsen tracks Q3 online shoppers and buyers in 10 countries.

Nielsen//NetRatings reports that as of Q3 2002, 26% of Swedish internet users shopping and buying online actually bought something online sometime in the previous six months. UK internet users follow with 23% buying something online and Australian internet users claim third place with 18% buying something online in the past-six-month time period.

Nielsen notes that it is interesting that Hong Kong, with a broadband penetration of 75%, has only 7% of internet users who have purchased online in the past six months. Nielsen also mentions that the UK has the highest conversion rate of online shoppers to buyers in Q3 with 70%.
