Microsoft neemt MobiComp over
Bill gaat weg, maar dat weerhoudt softwaregigant Microsoft er niet van om de dag vóór het afscheid overnames bekend te maken. Microsoft neemt MobiComp over, een Portugese softwarebouwer, gespecialiseerd in het ontwikkelen van mobiele applicaties. Hoeveel Microsoft betaalt voor MobiComp is niet bekend gemaakt (zie hier het persbericht met de mooie titel: ‘Microsoft Reaches for Clouds and Deepens Mobile Possibilities With Planned MobiComp Acquisition’, via Automatiseringsgids, Webwereld was eerder).
Uit het persbericht: ‘The acquisition would combine MobiComp’s expertise building innovative mobile data protection and sharing services with Microsoft’s vision to provide compelling experiences that span work and play across mobile phones, the Web and PCs’. MobiComp (Braga, Portugal) richt zich vooral op mobiele operators en serviceproviders.
Producten die het Portugese bedrijf aanbiedt zijn onder anderen MobileKeeper (back-up diensten speciaal gericht op social networks) en bijvoorbeeld Active mTicker, een nieuwsfeedservice (via: Techzine).
CEO en mede-oprichter van MobiComp Carlos Oliveira is er blij mee: ‘Like Microsoft, we’ve always believed in an open and innovative mobile platform and deep industry partnerships. We’re thrilled that our work over the past eight years can now be extended by partnering with Microsoft’s world-class portfolio of mobile services.’
